  1. Today's fishing rods can be divided into four distinct categories.
  2. Baitcasting, Spinning, Spin-Casting, and Fly Rods. Each has subtle variations,
  3. but these are the basics. For bass fishing, Bait Casting and Spinning rods
  4. seem to be the most popular. Many beginning bass fishermen however, have found
  5. the Spin-Cast rig to be the easiest to learn. Fly fishing for bass is very
  6. popular, and at times can be extremely productive.

  9. Most professional bass fishermen rely on the Bait Casting rod and the
  10. Spinning Rod. Bait Casting equipment usually requires a bit more practice to
  11. become proficient at, but offers tremendous versatility, durability and
  12. reliability. Spinning rods on the other hand, seem to handle small baits
  13. better than casting rods. In general, Spinning rods will cast a bit further
  14. than Bait Casting rods if the same weight lure were used on each. Another
  15. advantage of Bait Casting rods is their ability to utilize heavier line than
  16. Spinning rods.

  25. Spin-casting equipment has many of the benefits of both Bait Casting and
  26. Spinning Rods. It's major drawbacks seem to be that it does not handle
  27. line much above 14lb test well, and it doesn't tend to contend with large
  28. fish and heavy cover as well. With todays new spin-cast reels however, some
  29. of these shortcomings made fade away.
